Keynote Presentation: Synthetic biology - an important tool for industrial biotechnology

Industrial (white) biotechnology extensively develops and uses microorganisms as cell factories for sustainable production of a wide range of chemicals and recombinant proteins for applications in industry, medicine, food and feed, cosmetics and diagnostics. Synthetic biology is about the design and construction of new biological components and systems with new functions for useful purposes. Synthetic biology is rapidly pushing the possibilities for genetic engineering both in complexity and speed to new levels. This presentation will focus on the major technological advances made in this field, and include progress and examples demonstrating how synthetic biology has become an important tool for industrial biotechnology.
