Air travel is the simplest way to reach Tromsø from abroad. Nearly all flights to Tromsø that originate outside of Norway require a connection in Oslo. Both Norwegian Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) offer direct flights to Tromsø from Oslo. You can book your flight online or via the travel agency of your choice. Please note that all passengers on international flights arriving to Oslo MUST pick up their luggage at the baggage carousel and check it in again before passing through security. This is the law in Norway. Sometimes representatives at other airports will tell you that your luggage will be checked through to your final destination (in this case, Tromsø). They are wrong. Be prepared to collect your luggage in Oslo.

When arriving to the Tromsø Airport Langnes, you will find an Airport Express Coach with frequent departures directly to the city center. This costs around NOK 110 and you can pay by credit card on the coach. Alternatively, you can take the City Bus number 42 to the center and disembark at the third stop called Nerstranda. The bus fare is approximately NOK 50 and you must have cash. Each bus takes about 10-15 minutes to reach the center. You will also find a taxi right outside of the airport terminal. This will cost NOK 150-200, depending on when and where you are traveling - cash and credit card accepted. No tip is necessary.

You will likely not be doing much paid bus travel in conjunction with the conference, aside from travel to and from the airport. Most hotels are located in the center with all entertainment, food, and amenities just footsteps away. BIOPROSP will arrange your bus travel to and from the university. Therefore, it is probably most economical to purchase single bus tickets rather than day tickets or other ticket packages.
